IMPORTING YOUR OWN CONTACTS

Step 1: CREATING YOUR CONTACT LIST

There are a few format rules that need to be met in order to make the importing easy and quick.

  1. Column titles must be typed in a certain way.  Click here to see the correct format for column titles.

  2. Save as CSV file


REMEMBER

  • One sheet only! Delete Sheet 2 Sheet 3 etc.
  • Do not clump together information (Ie. First name and last name in one column)

Step 2: CREATING THE MAILING LIST

  1. Go to Mailing Lists Page: Under Setup>Contacts>Mailing lists
  2. Click +New Mailing list
  3. Title your mailing list and select public or private. Always save.


Step 3: IMPORTING CONTACTS

  1. Go to the Import Contacts Page: Setup>Contacts>Import Contacts. It's just under the Mailing Lists link that you were at earlier.

  2. Browse and find your contact list file, select. Then click Upload.

  3. Beside the file you just uploaded select IMPORT.

  4. Once you select the import button you will have to make sure that the Header column matches with the contact details column. This is why it is important to format your list properly. Then select Import.

Click on the Verify Uploaded Contacts link and your on you way to sorting your contacts in to mailing lists.


Step 4: SORTING; UNDERSTANDING THE TABS

You must now sort the contacts just uploaded into their appropriate mailing lists.

NEW ITEMS TAB

These are contacts that are not yet in your database.

ITEMS TO UPDATE

These are contacts that are in your database but may have new or updated information.

DUPLICATES

These are contacts that are in your database and have identical information. It is important to sort these into the mailing lists you are working on because they may be in your database but may not be linked to that specific mailing list.

  1. First select you mailing lists to add these contacts to at the bottom of the page.

    NOTE: If you are adding all the contacts under a tab to a mailing list you do not have to select any of them. Just select the mailing list/lists you want to add them to and click ADD ALL CONTACTS or UPDATE ALL CONTACTS


WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?

You will have to click on Verify Uploaded Contacts and finish sorting your contacts into mailing lists.
